A TEAC 5.25-inch 360KB floppy drive upgrade on a Tandy 1000 TX as part of the #SepTandy 2021 retro computing event, expanding storage capability on one of the most popular Tandy 1000 systems of the DOS era.
The installation process includes opening the case, removing the drive bay bracket, mounting the TEAC FD-55BV drive, aligning the bezel, reinstalling hardware, and testing floppy disk operation, formatting, and drive activity.
Additional hardware inside the system includes a SmartWatch+ real-time clock module and an IIT 2C87-10 math coprocessor. System checks include drive seek tests, formatting verification, and final operation after reassembly.
For fans of Tandy 1000 systems, Radio Shack computers, DOS-era PCs, and vintage hardware upgrades, this is a hands-on look at restoring period-correct floppy drive functionality.
